Difference between a crocodile and an alligator
Deadly odds. And what about caimans?
- Crocodiles more “V”-shaped head then alligators. Alligators have “U” rounded snout.
- Maybe similiar but still from different reptile families.
- Alligators live only in China and USA – you have much bigger chance to meet crocodile than alligator.
- Alligators are more calm than aggresive “crocos”. They are waiting hunters.
- The fourth tooth of a crocodile sticks out when its mouth is closed. In alligators, the upper jaw is wider than the lower jaw and completely overlaps it.
- Crocodiles have salt glands on their tongue – so they can live in seawater. Alligators don’t like it (prefering freshwater).
- Alligators have more dark skin, crocodiles are more lighter. Depends on their natural enviroment.
- Alligators can often reach at least 14 or 15 feet in length. There was one “ultra” huge crocodile at 20 feeth lenght, but most of crocodiles are 4-5 feet long (african “dwarf” crocodiles are the most common of its kind).[!
