How to Behave on a Video Resume

video_making.jpgNowadays video resumes have become more and more popular. Not only are they fairly easy to record with today’s technology, but the benefits that they provide in terms of being able to convey your personality to potential employers is hard to ignore.

The one difficulty that most candidates have when recording their video resume however is that they’re not quite sure how they should behave on the video. Essentially that can end up causing various problems, such as candidates appearing stiff, nervous, or unsure of themselves.

The first thing that you should do is simple: Relax. The video resume that you are creating is intended to show who you are, so it is important that you’re able to calm your nerves, take a deep breath, and be yourself. That being said you don’t want to be too relaxed either that you appear unprofessional!

Be sure to wear a suit or at very least something suitable for the workplace. The first impression that you make on the video counts for a lot, so take good care of your appearance – including your hair. Speak calmly and clearly throughout the video, and don’t attempt to rush through it.

Ideally, you should have scripted what you intend to say beforehand and practiced in front of the mirror a few times. And that is how you get into serious resume database.

Do not fidget during the video. Since you want to appear confident and composed, fidgeting will not help to further that impression. If possible, try to keep your hands still and avoid gesturing unless you feel it is absolutely necessary.

Long story short: Be yourself, be professional, and don’t let your nerves get the better of you. Assuming you can do all that, then recording a video resume that knocks the socks off potential employers should be a piece of cake.
